ISTJ Modes

Most of the time ISTJ personalities will utilize their first two wheelhouse functions together. They tend to identify most with these functions and be most comfortable with them. However, ultimately we all have capacities for all eight functions. The 16 personalities are each based on one pair of complementary functions. A complementary pair consists of two functions that have nothing in common with each other. In each complementary pair one function is perceiving, the other is deciding; one function is introverted, the other is extraverted. Since they are completely opposite they bond together like opposite magnetic poles. There are eight possible pairs of complementary functions:

  1. Extraverted Feeling (Fe) & Introverted Sensing (Si)
  2. Extraverted Feeling (Fe) & Introverted Intuition (Ni)
  3. Extraverted Thinking (Te) & Introverted Sensing (Si)
  4. Extraverted Thinking (Te) & Introverted Sensing (Si)
  5. Introverted Feeling (Fi) & Extraverted Sensing (Se)
  6. Introverted Feeling (Fi) & Extraverted Intuition (Ne)
  7. Introverted Thinking (Ti) & Extraverted Sensing (Se)
  8. Introverted Thinking (Ti) & Extraverted Intuition (Ne)

An ISTJ naturally leads with the Si/Te pair, but is able to shift into other pairs depending on the circumstances.

The most likely pairs are Si/Fe & Te/Ni as they allow the ISTJ type to stay focused on their two wheelhouse functions.

The second most likely pairs are
